From mountain to sea

on a sit on top KAYAK

3 days kayak trip on Serchio river with open sit on top kayak and camping on river’s bank

The Kayak Sit On Top is an open boat, single or two-seater, suitable for everyone and easy to manage which is also well suited for mixed river / lake / sea routes.

This particular proposal, unique in its kind in Italy, takes place on the Serchio River from Ponte a Moriano to the mouth at Marina di Vecchiano, The route develops in three daily stages and includes two overnight stays in stopping places of NAUTICAL CAMPING in isolated natural areas, but not far from the main procurement services:

First part of the route: Ponte a Moriano-Riva degli Albogatti

Downstream of Ponte a Moriano, the river flows slowly between poplar and beech woods, but there are also frequent areas of current where the kayak lets itself be pushed pleasantly along the gravel razors, sometimes touching the luxuriant vegetation.
Throughout the first stretch, the River Park frames the river in an evocative and picturesque environment, the cycle path that runs along its course is very popular with cyclists. the first camping stop is located at Riva degli Albogatti, in Nave, a few km from Lucca. The group of participants will find their belongings dry on the spot, transported by our shuttle service.

Second stretch: Riva degli Albogatti-Pontasserchio

Here you meet some fishermen on the wide pebble beaches, then after Ponte San Pietro it will be the turn of the suggestive tower of Nozzano and the austere Rocca di Ripafratta, evidence of a defensive system of the medieval era, when Pisa and Lucca competed for these lands and the same water as the river. Once in Pontasserchio you camp at the local beach, among beech and willow trees.

Last part of the route: Pontasserchio-Marina di Vecchiano

The river now proceeds slowly and without particular currents, after the bridge of the SS1 Aurelia, the environment becomes increasingly wild, skirting the natural reserve of the Tenuta di San Rossore on the left bank, we proceed towards the sea that appears to us as an immense stage . Here we have the opportunity to visit to the south, the wild Gombo beach which shows itself in all its charm, certainly one of the most interesting places in the Regional Park of Migliarino, San Rossore, Massaciuccoli. The final landing and recovery of the vehicles takes place instead to the north, at the beach of Marina di Vecchiano.

Along the way there are many inhabitants of the river that meet: different varieties of birds, such as the kingfisher, yellow and white dancers, herons and egrets, but also different fish species, from trout to barbel to carp and eels and then many dragonflies, frogs and tree frogs. In short, a look from a different point of view, to rediscover the beauty of nature and the charm of an adventure immersed in the wild environment.
